Regulations
All participants are individually responsible for starting the race in a well-trained, physically healthy condition. The regulations set out herewith must be strictly observed. In addition, the regulations of Swiss Triathlon and WTC will be applied if something is not covered herewith. Traffic laws must be adhered to and instructions from referees, judges and race officials must be complied with.
Race Briefing
The race briefing is mandatory for all athletes. It takes place in in different languages in the marquee on the Landiwiese. Please consider the timetable.
Check-In / Bike and helmet control
The Check-In of bikes and helmets is mandatory for all competitors. The Check-In takes place on Saturday. The times according to start number must be adhered to. Please check the timetable for your check-in time. Neither registration nor check-in are possible on Sunday morning.
The transition area will be closed from 7.30 p.m. on Saturday and will not be re-opened until 5 a.m. on Sunday. Bikes and helmets may be neither removed from the transition area nor be checked in on Sunday morning.
Transition Area
The transition area may only be entered by race participants and officials with the appropriate pass! Trainers, coaches and spectators have no admittance to these areas. Within these zones, bikes are to be pushed only (not ridden) and are to be parked in the appropriately numbered stands. Do not lay bikes on the ground!
Racing equipment, Helmet, Start numbers
Each participant is responsible for his/her own racing equipment. Only unaltered, homologated helmets (also time trial helmets) may be worn. Racing with an unclothed upper body is strictly forbidden on both the run and bike courses. Changing clothes is permitted only in the transition area. The start number may not be folded and must be worn in a clearly visible manner on the front of the body for the running course and on the back of the body for the bike course. It is not allowed to wear the bib number during swimming. Violating this rule will be punished.
Swim
Neoprene wetsuits are only permitted if the water temperature is below 24.5° Centigrade (76.1° Fahrenheit). If the water temperature is below 16° Centigrade (60.8° Fahrenheit), the wearing of a neoprene wetsuit is mandatory. The water temperature will be measured at a depth of 50 cm below the surface of the water on race day at 6 a.m. and the temperature publicised immediately. Compression stockings which cover feet are not permitted during swimming.
The current water temperature of Lake Zurich as well as other important weather data (outside temperature, air pressure, wind factor and wind direction, athmospheric humidity and possible quantity of rain) are always available on our website under "Weather online".
Biking, Drafting, Penalty Box and Cards
The biking is an individual time trial without any personal attendance. Drafting behind or next to a participant is prohibited. The minimal distance between the back wheel of the front rider and the front wheel of the rear rider is 10 meters. On the side, the distance is 2 meters. Overtaking must be completed after 30 seconds. Overtaken athletes are responsible to re-establish the distance and can only start an overtaking manoeuvre afterwards. The referees may warn the fallible athletes (yellow card), declare a time penalty of 6 minutes (black card) or disqualify with immediate effect (red card).
No matter which color of card was shown, athletes have to stop at the next penalty box. The boxes will be placed on the bike course and shortly after the transition area on the run course. Two black cards mean disqualification. Also every other combination of three cards (for example yellow-yellow-yellow, yellow-yellow-black or similar combinations).
Yellow card:
1. Stop at the next penalty box
2. Tell the referee which card you were shown (also check additional rule for yellow cards below)
3. Fill in your name and signature
4. Let the referee mark your bib number
5. Continue the race, in case you have not yet reached the maximum number of cards
The second yellow card also means a time penalty of 6 minutes (like one black card). Athletes are responsible themselves to tell the referees in the penalty box that they got the second yellow card.
Black card:
1. Stop at the next penalty box
2. Tell the referee which card you were shown
3. Take the stop watch from the referee and wait 6 minutes
4. Fill in your name and signature
5. Let the referee mark your bib number
6. Continue the race, in case you have not yet reached the maximum number of cards
Red card:
1. Stop at the next penalty box or in the transition area and tell the referee that you were disqualified
2. Do not continue the race
Every athlete is responsible himself to stop at the next penalty box and to tell the referee the correct card. Violating this rule leads to later disqualification.
Bottles and litter, paper etc. may be dropped on the circuit only within the Aid Station area, i.e. until max. 50 meters before and 50 meters after the Aid Stations. Any dropping of bottles or other litter out of the Aid Station area will be punished.
A certified and unaltered helmet has to be worn. Also time trial helmets are allowed. The wear obligation (straps closed!) starts prior to taking the bike from the bike stand and ends after depositing the bike. The non-observance of this rule leads to a warning and the failure of the wear obligation following a warning to the disqualification.
In Switzerland, the roads cannot be closed completely and there may be traffic anytime. The traffic rules and the Swiss road traffic law have to be strictly observed. For instance, a crossing of the security line leads to a disqualification! Dangerous descents are indicated with a yellow flag. This means that the speed has to be adjusted immediately! In some parts of the course, the use of the time trial handlebar is not allowed. Sign will show you were these parts are. Violating this rule leads to a yellow card.
The wear of headphones on the circuit leads to immediate disqualification (road traffic law!).
Running Circuits
For reasons of safety and fairness, the running circuits are areas exclusive for participants. Any form of mobile escort is strictly forbidden. The wear of headphones is also prohibited.

First Aid / Physicians
A well-trained team of first aiders and doctors will be ready to answer emergency calls. The “medical team” would like to remind all athletes to consume enough liquids both during and after the race, especially in case of hot weather. As long as the race lasts, ambulances and first aid posts will be positioned along the bike and run courses. After passing the finishing line, athletes will be received by helpers of the “finisher area”-team. Instructions by the medical staff will need to be followed immediately and unrestrictedly! Athletes who will be given an infusion will be sent an invoice (covering CHF 70) via the treating doctor. Medical emergency service as well as medication only available on prescription are not included in the entry fee and will be calculated along the lines of regional (cantonal) conventions. Health and accident insurance coverage is optional and needs to be provided for by the athletes themselves.
